#1 What is a screencast?
If you want to teach someone else how to use software or a web service there is little that comes close to the effectiveness of a good screencast. A screencast is a screen recording accompanied by an audio commentary done by the screencaster explaining what is happening on the screen as it happens.
To create a screencast, one needs screen-recording software, capable of capturing in real-time your mouse movements, clicks, and screen activities, and the ability to record audio WHILE doing it.
A screencast is therefore a digital movie where the stage is your computer screen. The name screencast does not mean they are "aired" live on the web. They are recorded, and they may eventually be edited.
If you are editing them or including them in another movie you are making, you can download the screencast to your computer and do that. You can also upload a finished screencast to YouTube, as it is now a digital movie. Once it is on video hosting site like YouTube, you can then embed it into a blog post or web page.
